Chartered Week as an opportunity to recognise professionalism
National Chartered Week ran from 23 – 27 February 2026, bringing together people from every industry and sector to focus on professional competence and ethics. But how does Chartership Week influence the world of STEM communications?
As the body that oversees the UK’s chartered engineering institutions, the Engineering Council shared examples that show the importance of chartership as a career milestone and benchmark of professional standards in engineering.
CEO Paul Bailey says: “Being professionally registered is a public statement of trust. It shows a commitment to act ethically, to make sound and responsible decisions, and to place the public interest at the heart of engineering work.”
Meanwhile, the CIPR made a call to use chartership as a tool to build public trust in the age of AI by calling for Government to promote chartership throughout the civil service.
With these perspectives in mind, it’s worth talking about chartered status in the content we create for others, as well as our own social media channels.
